The weekly review that survives past March
by Andreas Tissen · · updated
The weekly review is the highest-leverage block in the whole calendar, and it is the first one people drop. By March, it is the calendar entry you feel guilty about and keep moving. Not because anyone stops believing in it, but because the review is a TOUR of six lists across five screens, and you pay the full cost of that walk before anything useful comes back.
Every serious method has the same ritual under a different name: GTD's weekly review, OKRs' check-in, Agile's retro. Thirty minutes where you stop producing and look at the system itself: what is stuck, what went quiet, what deserves next week. The name changes, the drop-off does not.
Make the review a walk, then make it a record

Two structural moves get rid of that cost, and the picture shows both.
First: everything you review lives in one tree. Projects, Waiting-for, Someday, Inbox are branches, so "walk the system" is scrolling one screen with everything else collapsed. No app-switching, no tabs, no "where was that list".
Second: the review itself is a master checklist with dated runs. The master at the top is never ticked; each Friday you duplicate it, date it, and tick the copy. The runs pile up underneath as a record. That record is why the ritual survives into March: a visible streak has weight, a skipped week shows up as a gap, and when you notice you have ticked an item without thought five weeks straight, you delete it and the review gets shorter.
Five items is the right length. The picture's master has three; start there and grow only on evidence.
The agent takes the clerk's half
An agent does the clerk's half of the ritual without being asked: each Friday morning it duplicates the master, dates it, files it under RUNS, and pre-fills what it can already verify ("Inbox to zero" gets ticked by counting, not by feeling). You arrive to a review that is half done and entirely honest, and you spend your thirty minutes on the three judgement calls only you can make.
Take the ritual
Open the Weekly Review template, press "Show in my Pando", and the master with its RUNS folder stands in your tree. Your first run is this Friday; duplicate, date, tick.
